More Hook Ups!

Hey Hey!,

We have now had about 5 successful hook up's for this year so far and we could not be happier with the start we are getting from these ball pythons :). We ended up borrowing a Mojave male from a friend of ours through work and he has gotten right to work as well!

Breeding has Started!!!

Hey Hey,

Kind of by accident the ball python breeding has taken off! Steve was going through and cleaning out some cages when he put our male pastel in with the normal female. They might have been together for 3 or 4 minutes at most and when he took a look back in they were hooked up! So just seeing that happen we ended up putting our male spider in with our other normal female .. they did not hook up right away but after a couple of times in together they have hooked up as well!

We know this is just the start but it is looking good so far! We may also have another 5 adult females coming soon too, stay tuned!

P.S.- WE WILL BE DOWN TO 3 BABY CORN SNAKES LEFT AFTER THIS WEEK, SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT US AT JOHN@SYDNEYSERPENTS.COM

Thanks!

Here is a quick picture of the smaller female we were worried about, but within a month she will be more then ready!

ALSO, WE STILL HAVE A FEW BABY CORN SNAKES LEFT FOR SALE! email me at john@sydneyserpents.com if you are interested!

A Sad Day :(

Hey everyone,

Our worst fear came to be today as our female corn which just laid our first clutch of eggs passed away. She had been egg bound from the clutch, she had 1 stuck in her and we did everything possible but were unable to help her in the long run. Its quite the blow to us, this being our first attempt at breeding and really odd how it worked out. We got the best possible outcome for the amount of eggs she laid, yet the worst outcome for herself ..... another learning curve for us I guess ... but we will continue on next year.

Please keep checking back for updates as the eggs will be due in about 3 weeks!
Wish us luck!

First Clutch Ever!!

Hey everyone!

We are really excited to let you all know that our female corn snake laid 19 eggs last night! There are 2 slugs but 17 good eggs! We never expected to get this many on our first try but we are more then happy with the results. But at the same time, this being the females first clutch ever ... she seems extremely tired at the moment and actually has 1 egg left in her. Now we will have to watch her very carefully because having one left can be fatal to her if she does not pass it. We may have to go in and help her out. Fingers crossed though!

Corn snakes are breeding!!!

Woohoo!! :P

So today we were cleaning out cages and going about our daily business with the snakes, noticing for the last little while the male corn snakes being very restless and just recently the female being the same way. Although the female hasn't shed yet, it is still ok to introduce them together to begin breeding. So we thought, what the hell, let's try it! .... it did not take long haha. Once together it took less then 10 minutes for them to be hooked up! Not even a maybe on this one! very visible and easy to see the copulation!, exciting!

So it looks to be a good start for this year's breeding season, keep checking back for updates!

Thanks!

Getting Anxious!!!

Corn snake breeding season is among us and we could not be more excited for our first attempt at breeding. Everything is going to plan and as we expected our male Creamsicle (along with our male snow) went into shed and shed off their skin almost at the exact time they were supposed to.... now we are just waiting on our female to shed and then the fun begins. As we know the female should shed her skin about 2 weeks after the males. So that puts her to shed right around April 28th with any luck :). The males are already out and about being very restless, haha I think they know she is near ;)

Keep checking back for updates very soon! We will keep everyone posted on our progress!!

Corns!

Well the brumation period we set for our adult corn snakes is over and they are back up to normal temperatures once again. Its pretty funny to see how they react back in to the warm temps. We have 2 males that have always lived together in the same cage and when we put them back in with each other they were trying to get frisky with one another! I know its not recommended to have them together but the guy who sold them to us had them in the same cage their whole life. They sometimes will not even eat if they are not together, weird eh?. Although seeing them act like this seems to be a good sign, I know the female is ready to go so all we have to do now is power feed them to get the weight back on, wait until they shed and we are off to the races!!

Wish us Luck!

BP's are frustrating ...

So another feeding day gone by and again one of my female ball python refusing to eat. I know it may just be the time of year or maybe she is just being picky but what the hell! lol Cleo WAS one of our best feeders and now its been almost 7 weeks since her last feed and you can kind of see a bit of weight starting to drop :(, we might be looking at a force feed soon enough, ugh.

On the other hand our other larger female BP continues to eat very well and gain more and more weight :D, a good mate for our Spider next year??? That could be exciting, although we are looking into picking up a few new snakes within the next month or two, possibly a pair of Mojave's and a female pastel. Spider to a Pastel = BUMBLEBEE!! lol I know I am getting ahead of myself but I think that , that is a good reachable goal to start with :), fairly easy to do and a 25% to get one is not bad! Either way we will keep you updated on our progress.

Corns are still cooling for the moment with only a few weeks to go until the breeding season kicks into gear, here are a couple of pics of our newest corns we have on the cooldown!

Corns on the cool down!

We know that it is a little late to start cooling your corn snakes, but we had to wait until our new rack was completed and make sure that their stomach's were empty before we started. We will still be able to keep them brumating for close to two months before we heat them up again and hoping the "mood" will catch them just right!

And today another feeding / weighing day has gone by with all of our snakes moving up in the weight classes. Exciting stuff for next year!

In Motion!

Well things seem to be well in motion at this point. We are now up to 19 snakes, Corn Snakes and Ball Pythons mainly. We have a pair of Corns that we plan on breeding first this coming spring so fingers crossed!

We do have a couple of male Ball pythons which are big enough to breed at the moment but we are going to wait until our females get up in size for next year, with the addition of a couple morphs this year who knows what we will end up with!

We also just finished our first snake rack. It took a little bit of time and figuring out but everything came together fine in the end and now houses all of our snakes except the two large boas. Check it out and keep checking back for daily updates!
